What the walking is like

The most direct way to Pietrosul Călimani from the Suceava side: from Gura Haitii, past the old sulphur mine, to Poiana Izvoarelor and then up Coada Pietrosului, at 2,000 m. 1,200 m of climbing in 4 hours: a trained walker's pace.

• Pietrosul Peak is another 30–40 min from Coada Pietrosului, on the red stripe.
• The abandoned sulphur quarry is a lunar landscape; don't enter the galleries.

How long it takes, honestly

A linear trail: the time is one way (A → B). If you return the same way, add about two thirds; or leave a car at the far end / take the train. The duration is the one in Suceava County's official guide (Salvamont); the kilometres and driving minutes to the trailhead are from Google Maps.
