What the walking is like

A short link up to the ridge from the west, out of Romuli. It climbs the Strâmba valley to just below Bătrâna peak, where it joins the main traverse. You can get here by train too, at Romuli station on the Salva–Vișeu line, which makes it one of the few ways into the Rodna range without a car.

What we'd tell you at the gate

  • Trail 2 in the official list of the Rodna Mountains National Park authority.
  • Access: DN 17C, com. Romuli, sat Dealul Ștefăniței; stația CFR Romuli, ruta Salva–Vișeu.
  • County: Bistrița-Năsăud.
  • In winter: the park authority advises against this trail.
  • The park authority publishes the duration, the waypoints and the access. The waymarking above comes from OpenStreetMap, a community source rather than an official one: confirm it at the park office or with mountain rescue before you set off. Length and elevation gain are not published by the authority and do not appear on this site.
  • Blaze taken from the OpenStreetMap relation “Romuli – Zăvoaiele Borcutului – Șaua Bătrânei”: the endpoints match those in the park's list. The length is not shown: the relation covers a longer variant than the one the authority describes.
