Vatra Dornei – Runc Peak – Icoana Peak – Omu Peak

What the walking is like

The main ridge of Suhard, from the park in Vatra Dornei to Omu, with gentle crests, hay meadows and clearings almost the whole way. Two days; the only place to sleep on the mountain is the Holy Cross hermitage, near Fărăoane Peak.

What we'd tell you at the gate

• There are no huts or refuges: sleep at the hermitage (ask first) or in a tent.
• The official guide gives Omu at 1,932 m; other sources put the Suhard ridge under 1,700 m. Check the map beforehand.

  Suhard has no hut at all: the only place to sleep on the mountain is the Holy Cross hermitage, near Fărăoane Peak.

  Oușorul Peak (1,639 m) is the take-off point for Bucovina's paragliders; on thermal days you see dozens of wings above Dorna.

  The official guide gives Omu Peak at 1,932 m, but other sources put the massif's highest point at 1,639 m; we flag it as a discrepancy.

What else you can do on the trail

• 🪂 Paragliding: take-off from Oușorul Peak, with a good wind.
• 🐴 Horse riding on the ridges around Șesul Muntelui.
• Mountain biking on the ridge tracks.
• Ski touring in winter, on the wide meadows.

The species above are those documented in the area by the protected-area administration; what you see depends on season, hour and luck.

How long it takes, honestly

A multi-day linear trail: the time is for the whole route A → B, in two or three stages, with a tent or with guesthouses in the villages along the way. The duration is the one in Suceava County's official guide (Salvamont); the kilometres and driving minutes to the trailhead are from Google Maps.
