What to pack for this range

Tent, fire, mushrooms: what is allowed

• Camping · With conditions

  No designated spots; tents go in meadows, one night, away from sheepfolds. The Holy Cross hermitage takes in hikers.

• Fire · No

  Forbidden in the forest; on pasture only at a designated spot and without wind. In summer the dry ridge grass burns fast.

• Mushrooms and berries · Yes

  Yes, at the forest edge and along the forest roads: porcini, chanterelles; blueberries on the ridge. For your own use.

Worth knowing about the range

  Suhard has no hut at all: the only place to sleep on the mountain is the Holy Cross hermitage, near Fărăoane Peak.

• 2

  Oușorul Peak (1,639 m) is the take-off point for Bucovina's paragliders; on thermal days you see dozens of wings above Dorna.

• 3

  The official guide gives Omu Peak at 1,932 m, but other sources put the massif's highest point at 1,639 m; we flag it as a discrepancy.
