What the walking is like
From the Borșa tourist complex up the Furului valley and Poiana Mărului, then a sustained climb to Cearcănu Peak, at 1,847 m, and a descent through dwarf pine towards the Fântâna Stanchii cabin and the Prislop Pass.

The Preluca Cerbului ridge is crossed through dwarf pine, the scrub that grows only at altitude.
The Prislop Pass, at 1,416 m, is the highest road pass in the Eastern Carpathians.

Sleep at the foot of the mountain
La Cuib is half an hour by car plus a walk uphill from the start of this trail: a fully equipped kitchen that is yours from first light, a place to dry boots, a garden for the evening. Three nights, the whole house, 1,797 lei.

Once you're back down
The whole house is yours: wet boots by the door, packs in the hall, a late dinner. Parking in the yard and an early start, without waking anyone.
