Mountain trails in the Obcini of Bucovina

The Obcini are the mountains you stroll: soft ridges, beech and spruce forests, mown hay meadows, a village in every valley and a monastery at every end. They have no huts and no refuges, so the long trails go village to village, with guesthouses on the way. The most beautiful one starts at Mestecăniș Pass, 24 minutes from the house, on the Tatars' Road.

Worth knowing about the range

Obcina Mestecăniș is the highest and most spectacular of the Obcini, with Lucina Peak at 1,586–1,588 m; its crest is the “Tatars' Road”, along which the invasions came into Moldavia.

Pietrele Muierii, the group of rocks reached from Solca, is the natural landmark of Obcina Mare.

In winter all the Obcini trails are accessible, but with at least two people, snowshoes or touring skis and avalanche kit.
